The University of Maryland’s SGA will begin holding elections for its caucuses this month. This year, it’s seeking members for a new group that’s set to represent the “diverse needs, perspectives and issues” of Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders and Desi Americans at the university.

When Anousheh Gholami received an internship offer from Nokia Bell Labs in January, she stopped looking for other positions. But later that month, Gholami, an Iranian doctoral student at the University of Maryland, heard back from the company. Her offer had been rescinded.

Annapolis was dreary when Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy and the family of 2nd Lt. Richard Collins walked into the Maryland State House on Tuesday morning. But Dawn Collins, Collins’ mother, stood out, wearing a bright, spring-green blazer. Soon after, she testified in support of a bill that would change Maryland’s hate crime statute, lowering the threshold for conviction. “How can this not be a hate crime?” Dawn Collins said. “What has to happen?”

COLLEGE PARK – State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy announced that her office would no longer request cash bail as part of her first State of Justice Symposium on Sept. 10 in the Hotel at the University of Maryland.
